About The Role
The Junior Accountant position manages daily financial and accounting tasks. Duties include assisting with the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, reporting, and balance sheets.
What you’ll do:
- Assist senior accountants with all financial operations.
- Create and post journal transactions to the general ledger ensuring proper accounting.
- Perform daily balancing and interface testing on Cash, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable.
- Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for various accounts. Identify and research reconciling items to analyze, document and resolve them on a timely basis.
- Assist with the reviewing of financials as assigned.
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports.
- Maintain PO information for MLI subsidiary, MLW.
- Assist and backup G&A Accounts Payable representative with submitting timely and accurate coding of MLI and subsidiary G&A invoices.
- Assist and backup G&A Accounts Payable representative with reviewing and paying all expense reports to ensure they are in compliance with company policy, which requires proper authorization and inclusion of receipts.
- Keep Accounting Management informed and up to date of non-compliant expense reports or any other problems that may arise.
- Respond in a timely manner to the information needs of management as requested.
- Perform other accounting functions and projects as necessary, requested, or assigned.
You have these skills:
- Demonstrates strong technical accounting skills.
- Works well independently and has adept organization and time-management skills.
- Good with numbers and figures and an analytical intelligence.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Excel.
- Great attention to detail.
- Collaborates with colleagues and has strong social skills.
And these qualifications:
- Knows the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
- Work experience of 1-2 years in accounting or relevant field (including internships) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and all MS Office programs, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to type and perform 10-key commands.
- Desire to learn and understand the transportation business.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player, as well as independently.
- Must consistently demonstrate professional and pleasant behavior and effectively communicate in stressful situations and/or environments.
- Additional soft skills related to problem solving, project management, technical skills, customer service, interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, teamwork, quality management, cost consciousness, ethics, organizational support, judgment, planning/organizing, professionalism, dependability, and initiative.

The annual salary range is posted for this position in Illinois. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
