Job summary

City Personnel, Inc. is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join its Real Estate Lending team in Pawtucket, RI. The role involves reviewing complex mortgage files, including Jumbo and self-employed borrowers, to ensure compliant, sound credit decisions.

Responsibilities include evaluating applications against investor guidelines, underwriting complex products, and ensuring ATR compliance. Collaboration with Loan Officers and Processors is essential to finalize approved loans.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in lending; mortgage underwriting preferred.
• NMLS registration or ability to register.
• Working knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC guidelines; Encompass LOS experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a high level of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate residential mortgage applications against investor, FNMA, and FHLMC guidelines and render accurate, compliant loan decisions within service levels.
• Underwrite complex loan products, including Jumbo loans and self-employed borrowers, by calculating income/assets and applying overlays.
• Ensure ATR compliance by documenting all eight underwriting factors.
• Collaborate with Loan Officers and Mortgage Processors to resolve conditions and sign off on closing conditions including appraisal review.
• Enter underwriting conditions and HMDA data into Encompass LOS; order PMI as required and respond to audits.
• Maintain file compliance with BSA/AML, OFAC, and customer identification requirements; suggest lending policy improvements.
