Essential Job Functions
This position is responsible for specialized entry-level clerical work in the District Court. It requires that all essential duties assigned be performed in an accurate and prompt manner. Upon completion of orientation and initial training, the incumbent will perform specific and measurable tasks under moderate supervision.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Open and accept civil filings through file and serve that are civil pretrial and post judgment
related. This includes but is not limited to sending back deficient filings, tasking work to
appropriate queues, and editing documents received.
Process all motions and filings and ensure all necessary documents are complete and
accurate in accordance with established court procedures. Enter service, compose civil
dockets and affidavit judgments. Process all other requests that a pretrial and post judgment related.
Assist the public, attorneys, and court personnel in person or on the phone responding to inquiries regarding the proper completion of various
s court rooms. Provide information regarding court policies and procedures.
Review and process all other civil documents. Sort, file, and scan various documents and files in accordance with MDEC procedures.
Receive and process all landlord tenant filings that are filed in person and through File and Serve.
Perform other duties assigned.
Education
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience
One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services
Note
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience
Knowledge Of
Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Alpha and numerical filing systems.
Basic legal terminology and able to communicate effectively using such with court personnel and ancillary agencies.
Standard legal forms and documents used in the Maryland District Courts.
Skill In
Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
Typing on a personal computer.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability To
Operate a personal computer.
Communicate effectively with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the phone.
Maintain and use a detailed filing system.
Verify scanned documents from other co-workers.
Exercise tact and understanding in pressured situations.
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Software And Computer Skills
Microsoft Suites, Odyssey, personal computer knowledge
