Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Pitt County residents preferred; JD and active NC license preferred.
  • Experience in a courthouse or law office; Estates/Probate experience a plus.
  • Spanish language fluency also helpful; paralegal experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Clerk in exercising judicial authority and duties.
  • Conduct evidentiary hearings and render findings of fact and conclusions of law.
  • Preside over hearings on foreclosures, guardianships, and related matters in statutory jurisdiction.
  • Process probate of wills and codicils.
  • Appoint personal representatives for estates and other fiduciaries.
  • Prepare testamentary, administrative, and guardianship documents.
  • Review annual and final accountings for accuracy.
  • Issue notices and orders to representatives and counsel.
