Descripción del empleo

Director of Curriculum & Instruction (DCI) – Judaic Studies, (Grades 6–12)

Scheck Hillel Community School, a large Modern Orthodox Jewish community school located in sunny North Miami Beach, Florida is currently accepting resumes for an experienced full time Director of Curriculum & Instruction (DCI) for Judaic Studies, (Grades 6–12).

Scheck Hillel is a nationally recognized college preparatory and Jewish community school located in North Miami Beach, Florida. Our well-rounded, rigorous, dual curriculum program serves over 1,400 students in PKT through 12th grade. As a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, we attract and retain a diverse faculty who demonstrate professional excellence with an unwavering commitment to delivering an education of unsurpassed quality, As a community school, we understand that our school isn't just about education, it's about the whole child.

The Director of Curriculum & Instruction (DCI) for Judaic Studies (Grades 6–12) provides instructional, administrative, and strategic leadership across Middle and High School programs. Serving as a master pedagogue, active classroom teacher (as needed), and collaborative leader, this individual bridges classical text study (Tanach, Navi, Mishna, Gemara) with collaborative support for modern, functional Hebrew language acquisition with the Upper School Hebrew Department Chair, and lived experiential Jewish life within a warm, grounded Orthodox framework.

The DCI is responsible for building a vertically aligned K–12 standards framework that balances biblical/rabbinic literacy with modern Hebrew fluency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing). By actively teaching in the classroom, fostering a supportive "family-like" team culture rooted in guidance over compliance, promoting interdisciplinary connections, and cultivating belonging across diverse observance levels, the DCI leads a vibrant, academically rigorous, and emotionally supportive educational ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
4. Administrative & Mission Alignment
  • Curriculum Design, Standards & Hebrew Language Integration (Grades 6–12)
  • 6–12 Standards & Vertical Alignment: Lead the creation, implementation, and spiraled alignment of clear standards across Judaic Studies — establishing strong text decoding and oral communication skills early so advanced study becomes an enrichment rather than remedial learning
  • Dual-Focus Hebrew Literacy: In collaboration with the Upper School Hebrew Department Chair, balance modern spoken Hebrew fluency, cultural literacy, and contemporary communication with biblical text fluency and literacy (Tanach) — ensuring administration and faculty treat Hebrew language acquisition as a top-tier institutional priority
  • Comprehensive Textual Coverage: Ensure systematic coverage of all core text areas—eliminating knowledge gaps in essential subjects such as Navi (Prophets), Biur Tefillah (prayer mechanics/meaning), Practical Halacha (applicable law), Yedi’ot Kelaliot, and Rabbinic literature
  • Interdisciplinary Integration: Partner with secular subject teachers to weave Judaic concepts, transferable analytical skills, and modern language applications into secular courses (e.g., science, humanities)
  • Belonging & Safe Inquiry: Foster classroom cultures where students of all observance levels feel welcomed, understood, and valued. Support teachers in welcoming tough questions, diverse philosophical approaches, and active language practice without fear of making mistakes
  • Differentiated Pathways & Mainstreaming: Implement pedagogical strategies tailored to varying skill levels (Al Pi Darko). Design targeted support pathways for students coming from non-traditional or diverse Jewish backgrounds to build core foundational knowledge and blend seamlessly into mainstream classes
  • Faculty Leadership, Team Culture & Supportive Mentorship
  • Guidance Over Compliance: Cultivate a collaborative, caring team environment built on mutual trust, shared resources, cross-grading, and teacher collaboration, teamwork, and autonomy rather than top-down enforcement
  • Direct Supervision & Accountability: Manage, mentor, and hold accountable Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language staff, Judaic/Hebrew Department Chairs, and Tefillah Coordinators across Grades 6–12
  • Active Teaching & Instructional Modeling: Maintain an active teaching presence (as needed) in the classroom to model cutting‑edge pedagogy, stay grounded in teacher realities, and connect directly with students
  • Instructional Coaching & Pedagogy: Serve as an accessible mentor ("mensch") and problem‑solver. Conduct regular observation cycles, group community sessions, and 1-on-1 meetings to support unit design, experiential learning, and student engagement
  • Talent Acquisition: Partner with Middle and High School Directors in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and retaining top‑tier Judaic Studies and Hebrew faculty who align with the school's mission and culture
  • 3. Experiential Jewish Life, Whole-Child Engagement & Eretz Yisrael
  • Active Presence & Whole-Child Advocacy: Be "all in" on student life—attending athletic games, arts events, and extracurricular activities to build strong, caring relationships with students outside the classroom
  • Experiential & Emotional Pedagogy: In partnership with the Directors of Jewish Life, incorporate outdoor/experiential learning, songs, and emotional connections into both Judaic and Hebrew programs (Chagim, Rosh Chodesh, Chesed, Shabbatonim, Moot Beit Din, Sukkah building) so learning leaves positive, lasting memories
  • Campus & Policy Integration: Audit campus policies and physical spaces to ensure alignment with taught values—maintaining accessible netilat yadayim stations, posted prayer guides, fast day (Ta'aniot) accommodations, and holiday‑aligned calendar planning
  • Zionism & Israel Gap Year Leadership: Foster an intentional, grounded connection to Eretz Yisrael, Israeli culture, and Zionism. Guide and mentor students through the search, application, and acceptance process for Israel gap‑year programs (yeshivot, seminaries, and specialized programs)
  • Parent & Community Partnership: Involve families in holiday celebrations in concert with ongoing divisional initiatives, campus events, and language opportunities, equipping students to bring their learning and Hebrew communication home to the Shabbat table
  • Admissions & Diagnostic Placement: Assist admissions teams with testing, Hebrew text‑reading, and oral language assessments for incoming 6–12 applicants to ensure proper placement and support
  • Senior Exit Evaluation: Establish formal Senior Exit Interviews to assess graduate sentiment, skill readiness, gap‑year preparation, and pride in their Jewish and Hebrew language journey
  • Rabbinic & Shared Vocabulary: Partner with Rabbinic leadership and Lower School counterpart to establish a shared Jewish vocabulary across the school and highlight vibrant Jewish life through communications and digital media
Qualifications And Experience
  • Education: Master’s degree required, preferably in Judaic Studies, Hebrew Language/Linguistics, Rabbinic Literature, Educational Administration, or Curriculum & Instruction. Educator Certification preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of successful Judaic Studies and/or Hebrew Language teaching experience at the Middle or High School level, with demonstrated strength in Tanach, Navi, and modern Hebrew communication
    • Minimum 2 years of administrative, department chair, or instructional leadership experience
    • Proven track record in curriculum mapping, standards development, interdisciplinary unit planning, and multi‑grade alignment (Grades 6–12)
    • As a role model, we are looking for a leader who is practicing an Orthodox lifestyle.
    • Advanced education in an Orthodox Jewish institute preferred
  • Language Skills: High fluency and proficiency in spoken, written, and biblical/rabbinic Hebrew
  • Scholarly & Philosophical Grounding: Deep Jewish scholarship combined with an appreciation for diverse hashkafic (purposes?) within Orthodox Judaism
  • Hashkafa & Practice: Deep commitment to and personal background in Orthodox Jewish practice and values
  • Interpersonal Attributes: Collaborative team player, empathetic mentor, supportive problem‑solver, approachable, with strong management and communication skills
Graduate and Program Outcomes

The DCI is responsible for delivering a program where graduates:

  • Demonstrate Literacy & Communication: Accurately read, decode, and analyze core Hebrew texts (Tanach, Navi, Mishna, Gemara) AND fluently speak, listen, read, and write in modern Hebrew (#1 communication goal) with confidence to enter seminaries, yeshivot, universities, or global Jewish settings without knowledge gaps
  • Possess Religious Confidence & Agency: Feel equipped with practical skills (leading davening, hosting Shabbat, setting up a Sukkah) and character (middot) to build an informed Jewish home, articulate their values and navigate‑the secular world confidently outside the school "bubble."
  • Embody school Torah values & Belonging – appreciate the holiness of all knowledge, feel secure in their unique identity within a welcoming community, hold a deep zionistic connection to Eretz Yisrael, and carry fond, lifelong memories of their Jewish and Hebrew learning journey

We offer a comprehensive compensation package that includes competitive salary, benefits, professional development, opportunity for growth and more.
