Job summary

gpac is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong HVAC/Building Systems background to contribute to diverse commercial and institutional projects. You will develop mechanical designs, size HVAC systems, and coordinate with owners, architects, and construction teams to ensure project success.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of facilities design experience, proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, and familiarity with Trane TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP.

Mechanical Design Engineer - HVAC / Building Systems

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established and highly respected organization with a long history of delivering complex commercial and institutional projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong foundation in HVAC and mechanical systems design who enjoys collaborating with owners, architects, construction teams, and other engineering disciplines. You'll have the opportunity to work on diverse, technically challenging projects while continuing to grow your design and construction expertise.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop mechanical designs for a variety of commercial and institutional facilities
• Research, review, and establish project-specific design criteria
• Design and size HVAC airside and waterside systems
• Assist with the design and layout of medical/laboratory gas and process systems
• Define system requirements and select equipment for design-build projects
• Generate plans and coordinate mechanical designs with architectural and other trades
• Perform industry calculations and simulations utilizing programs such as Trane TRACE 700 and Carrier HAP
• Work directly with building owners, property managers, architects, engineers, and construction teams
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, safety requirements, and industry standards
• Assist Estimating and Preconstruction teams with technical information for construction proposals
• Review and process vendor shop drawings and equipment submittals
• Support the development and maintenance of CAD/BIM standards, details, and best practices
• Professionally present technical issues and design solutions to clients
• Manage responsibilities across multiple projects while maintaining schedules and quality standards

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in facilities or mechanical systems design, or equivalent experience
• Experience with projects in markets such as healthcare, higher education, commercial, laboratory, industrial, or similar facilities
• Working knowledge of building codes and mechanical design standards
• Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of mechanical equipment and HVAC systems
• Strong organizational, technical, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage responsibilities across multiple projects
• Self-starter who works well in a collaborative environment and enjoys solving technical challenges

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
• EIT certification is a plus
• Previous construction or design-build experience is highly desirable
• Experience with Trane TRACE 700, Carrier HAP, or similar load-calculation/design software
• Exposure to medical gas, laboratory, process piping, or complex mechanical systems is a plus
