We are seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to lead complex investigations into application responsiveness, network behavior, and end-user service issues across enterprise and hybrid-cloud environments. This engineer will independently collect and analyze technical evidence, isolate performance bottlenecks, guide incident resolution, and partner with network, cloud, infrastructure, operations, and application teams to improve service reliability.
Lead packet-capture collection and analysis to identify latency, retransmissions, packet loss, connection failures, resets, timeouts, and unusual traffic behavior.
Independently troubleshoot application-layer services including HTTP/S, APIs, DNS, TLS/SSL, authentication workflows, and client-server communications.
Trace end-to-end traffic across campus, data-center, internet, and cloud environments; identify likely points of failure and clearly document findings.
Lead investigations involving Cisco routing and switching, SD-WAN, Direct Internet Access, load balancers, firewalls, proxies, and hybrid-cloud connectivity.
Diagnose performance and connectivity issues affecting Azure ExpressRoute-supported services and other cloud integrations.
Correlate packet captures with application logs, infrastructure telemetry, monitoring alerts, and user-impact data to isolate root causes.
Serve as a senior technical resource during high-impact incidents, drive service restoration, and produce clear root-cause findings and corrective-action plans.
Establish performance baselines, analyze recurring trends, identify capacity or reliability risks, and recommend improvements.
Partner with application, network, cloud, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to validate root cause and implement lasting corrective actions.
Create and maintain troubleshooting guides, operating procedures, technical documentation, and reusable analysis methods.
Provide technical guidance, peer review, and mentoring to junior engineers and support personnel.
Identify opportunities to automate packet collection, analysis, reporting, monitoring, and recurring troubleshooting tasks.
Five or more years of experience in network engineering, performance engineering, infrastructure engineering, production support, application support, systems engineering, or a related technical environment.
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, load balancing, firewalls, proxies, and enterprise network-troubleshooting concepts.
Strong hands-on experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, PCAP, or comparable packet-analysis tools.
Demonstrated ability to analyze TCP handshakes, resets, retransmissions, packet loss, latency, timeouts, DNS behavior, and TLS/SSL negotiations.
Strong understanding of HTTP/S, APIs, authentication workflows, and client-server application behavior.
Experience leading production incident triage, service restoration, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action planning.
Ability to correlate network activity with application logs, monitoring data, infrastructure dependencies, and user-reported symptoms.
Strong documentation, communication, organization, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
Ability to work on-site in Phoenix, Arizona, Monday through Friday.
Experience with Cisco routing and switching, SD-WAN, Direct Internet Access, Azure ExpressRoute, or other hybrid-cloud connectivity technologies.
Experience with monitoring, observability, network-performance, or application-performance platforms such as Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, AppDynamics, NetBrain, or LiveNX.
Experience supporting performance and reliability requirements in banking, financial services, or another regulated enterprise environment.
PowerShell, Python, Bash, or another scripting and automation technology.
Experience with capacity planning, performance baselining, high availability, disaster recovery, or resiliency testing.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, networking, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
CCNP, CCNA, Azure, AWS, Wireshark, or another relevant technical certification.
