Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Jr. Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Panama City, FL. This position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals who are passionate about mechanical design, systems integration, and hands-on problem solving for Naval Surface Warfare Center's Panama City Division (NSWC PCD).
The successful candidate will support the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical systems and components, working under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure projects are completed on time and in compliance with applicable standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, modeling, and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software.
- Conduct engineering calculations and basic analyses related to stress, fluid flow, heat transfer, and tolerances.
- Participate in prototype development, assembly, and testing of mechanical systems.
- Support design reviews, documentation updates, and bill of materials (BOM) management.
- Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical issues during testing and production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and engineering change notices.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality standards.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging mechanical technologies.
- Support field work, installations, and customer-facing engineering efforts as needed.
Job Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Active Secret Security Clearance a huge plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 0-2 years of mechanical engineering experience (internships or co-ops strongly preferred).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD).
- Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and design principles.
- Familiarity with materials, manufacturing methods, and mechanical testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow direction from senior engineers.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic engineering environment.
- Availability for occasional overtime or travel if required.
