Job summary

New York Edge is seeking highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-driven individuals to join our Leadership & SEL Department as Jr. Leadership & SEL Coaches. This part-time role is an excellent opportunity for professionals passionate about supporting students' social and emotional development and leadership growth within an urban educational environment.

Each Jr. Coach is assigned to one or two program sites, where they administer SEL pre- and post-assessments, implement the leadership

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth in educational, community-based, nonprofit, or clinical settings.
  • Strong technology and data management skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), Google Workspace / Google Drive, Salesforce, and database management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment: Administer SEL pre- and post-assessments at assigned sites accurately and on schedule, and support timely, accurate data entry with SEL Data Specialists.
  • Curriculum: Implement the leadership and SEL curriculum with fidelity during afterschool hours, adapting delivery to student needs.
  • Referrals: Support external SEL and mental health referral processes, connecting students and families to therapy and counseling.
  • Intervention support: Assist in assessing student mental health needs and implementing short-term interventions with clinicians.
  • Collaboration: Partner with teachers and staff to promote social-emotional competence and leadership behavior.
  • Professional development: Participate in year-round SEL professional development and peer coaching.
  • Restorative practice: Apply restorative justice approaches to support relationships and community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

This part-time role is an excellent opportunity for professionals passionate about supporting students' social and emotional development and leadership growth within an urban educational environment. Each Jr. Coach is assigned to one or two program sites, where they administer SEL pre- and post-assessments, implement the leadership and SEL curriculum, and support the external SEL and mental health referral process. Jr. Coaches report to a Sr. Leadership & SEL Coach who oversees their borough portfolio, and they participate in year-round New York Edge professional development. Coaches collaborate with program staff, teachers, families, and certified clinicians to connect students to the right supports.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assessment. Administer SEL pre- and post-assessments at assigned sites accurately and on schedule, and support timely, accurate data entry in partnership with the SEL Data Specialists.
  • Curriculum. Implement the leadership and SEL curriculum with fidelity during afterschool hours, adapting delivery to the needs of the students at each assigned site.
  • Referrals. Support the external SEL and mental health referral process, connecting students and families to individual therapy, group therapy, counseling, and family resources.
  • Intervention support. Support the assessment of student mental health needs and help implement short-term, frequent, and strategic interventions alongside certified clinicians.
  • Collaboration. Partner with teachers and program staff to promote social and emotional competence and positive leadership behavior in program spaces.
  • Professional development. Participate in year-round SEL professional development, reflective practice, peer coaching, and group work.
  • Restorative practice. Apply restorative justice approaches to support student relationships, conflict resolution, and community building.
  • Other duties as assigned.
