Job summary

New York Edge in New York City is seeking a part-time Academic Enrichment Coach to support after-school programs. You will supervise and guide learning, helping students with homework and skill development in a safe, engaging environment.

Work Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm–5:30 pm, in person, with opportunities to participate in arts, STEM, and wellness activities. A collaborative team model and positive role modeling are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma required; some college preferred.
• Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision to ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants.
• Engage participants in structured activities across arts, STEM, literacy and fitness.
• Prepare environment and supplies; keep spaces clean and organized.
• Support planning, field trips, and program events.
• Maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular updates.
• Attend required trainings and participate in staff meetings.
• Ensure groups stay in ratio.

Summary:

New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the part-time role of after-school Academic Enrichment Coach. In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of New York Edge's after-school program. You will be responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school-age children and providing opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic/personal growth. Academic Enrichment Coaches also participate in activities and trips while providing and maintaining a safe working environment. They help with homework and prepare students to demonstrate newly acquired skills in Sports and Arts.

2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide appropriate supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants.
• Be an agent of safety for campers. This includes taking responsibility for one's well-being and the well-being of others.
• Keep the immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.
• Engage participants in meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, and challenging and based on values in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.
• Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.
• Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including but not limited to learning initiatives, field trips, and culminating performances.
• Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.
• Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
• Serve as a positive role model for participants.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child's strengths and areas of growth. Take a leadership role in providing regular updates to caregivers.
• Attend all required training sessions. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
• Ensure that groups are in ratio.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• May be required to walk up and down stairs.
• May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
• Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with community at-large during trips or events.

The Academic Enrichment Coach will be required to report to the school and interact with staff, students, parents, and the school administration.

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
