Job description

FPS Civil is seeking a Jr. Estimator with experience in underground utility work, street improvements, water/wastewater treatment plants, and remediation projects. The candidate will assist the Estimating Department with estimating take-offs, work with subcontractors and suppliers to get pricing for subcontracted work and materials, and assist with organizing bids.

Successful candidates must be able to complete assignments accurately, read plans, understand how to estimate construction projects, perform manual and computerized take-offs accurately, and have knowledge of various types of pipes, pipe fittings, sewer systems, manholes, coatings, and shoring systems used in civil underground construction projects.

We are looking for candidates with exceptional organizational, follow-through, interpersonal, and communication skills. Punctuality, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task are essential. Maintaining good working relationships, motivating others, and thinking out of the box to be solution providers are highly desirable qualities.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

1. Proficiency in reading blueprint/plans and specifications.
2. Strong math and writing skills.
3. Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and production.
4. Knowledge of local specifications – MAG, ADOT, McDOT, and Municipal MAG specs and supplements.
5. Knowledge of MBE/WBE/DBE requirements.
6. Strong organizational, follow-through, and communication skills.
7. Dependable, proactive, and prompt.
8. Ability to develop professional relationships.
9. Independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
10. High professionalism and strong work ethic.
11. Proficiency with InEight (formerly Hard Dollar), Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project), Bluebeam, Agtek, and Building Connected.
12. Ability to meet safety requirements and adhere to safety policies.

Education, Training, and Experience:

1. At least two years of construction estimating or equivalent experience.
2. Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field is highly desired.
3. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
4. Ability to pass a background check.

Physical Work Demands and Conditions:

• Work in construction office environments and at busy construction sites.
• Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Use of PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, steel-toe boots, gloves, masks, and fall protection.
• Good vision and hearing for safety and communication.
• Use of arms and legs required.
• Some weekend and night work may be necessary.
• Minimum 50 hours per week.
