Jr. Database Engineer

Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database solutions to support mission-critical applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during all phases of implementation, including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
- Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
- Monitor and tune database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies (such as query optimization, indexing strategies)
- Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards across environments
- Automate routine database loading, maintenance, and monitoring tasks to improve efficiency
- Provide technical guidance and best practices for database design, migration, and integration projects
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field
- 1+ years of hands‑on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA
- Familiarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security
- Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows
- Active or Current (within two years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in technical support or customer‑facing GIS roles
- Experience with data conversion or migration
- Knowledge of Linux and UNIX environments
- Familiarity with web mapping and remote sensing tools
- Proficiency in Python scripting and SQL
- GIS certifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and/or Windows environments
- Exposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and nontechnical project managers or customers
- Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting
- Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time‑related constraints in a fast‑paced contracting environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals
- Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting, as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.
- Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.
- Good problem‑solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it
