Job summary

Canal Barge Company is seeking a Junior Buyer/Warehouse Associate to support procurement for vessels and internal customers. The role also maintains a safe warehouse, processes POs, and tracks deliveries within the ERP system.

You will assist with RFQs, grow vendor relationships, and coordinate cross-functionally with buying and warehouse teams. Occasional driving for deliveries may be required; experience in procurement and forklift certification are valued.

Qualifications

• Experience in procurement or purchasing (1 year) is required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to drive a forklift with certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent; TWIC credential.

Responsibilities

• Purchase items for vessels and internal customers; groceries, marine and safety supplies.
• Request RFQs for procurement needs of internal customers.
• Identify and develop vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of goods.
• Review and approve purchase orders according to company policies.
• Follow up on POs for timely delivery and track back-ordered items.
• Receive POs in ERP and process invoices in On Base to support Accounting.
• Maintain warehouse inventory and internal catalog with updated pricing.
• Coordinate cross-functionally between buying and warehouse operations.
• Arrange service, maintenance, and cleanliness of CBC and Illinois Marine Towing vehicles.
• Provide delivery (driving) for Canal Barge Company and Illinois Marine Towing vessels as needed.

BASIC FUNCTIONThe primary function is to assist with procurement of goods and services for vessels and internal customers. The Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly warehouse.II. RESPONSIBILITIES1. Purchase items ranging from groceries for the vessels to marine and safety supplies.2. Assist in requesting RFQs for procurement of supplies needed for all internal customers.3. Assist with identifying potential vendors.4. Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of products and services.5. Collaborate with other departments to determine procurement needs.6. Review and approve purchase orders according to company policies and procedures.7. Follow-up on all Purchase Orders issued for timely delivery and track back-ordered purchases.8. Receive Purchase Orders within the ERP system as needed9. Handle routine expedites and track deliveries.10. Responsible for warehouse inventory11. Manage internal catalog with updated pricing and setting up new items accordingly.12. Work cross-functionally between buying and warehouse operations.13. Arrange for service, maintenance, and cleanliness of all Illinois Marine Towing company vehicles.14. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis position requires frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing 40 lbs. minimum.
