Job summary

Illinois Marine Towing / Canal Barge Company seeks a Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate to assist with procurement for vessels and internal customers while maintaining a safe, orderly warehouse. The role includes RFQs, vendor management, PO processing, inventory control, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities include driving deliveries as needed, managing the internal catalog, processing invoices, and supporting the Procurement Manager.

Qualifications

  • One year’s experience in procurement or purchasing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Ability to drive a forklift (with certification).
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Purchase items ranging from groceries for vessels to marine and safety supplies.
  • Assist in requesting RFQs for procurement of supplies needed for all internal customers.
  • Assist with identifying potential vendors and develop vendor relationships.
  • Collaborate with other departments to determine procurement needs.
  • Review and approve purchase orders according to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow-up on all Purchase Orders issued for timely delivery and track back-ordered purchases.
  • Receive Purchase Orders within the ERP system as needed.
  • Handle routine expedites and track deliveries.
  • Responsible for warehouse inventory.
  • Manage internal catalog with updated pricing and setting up new items accordingly.
  • Work cross-functionally between buying and warehouse operations.
  • Arrange for service, maintenance, and cleanliness of all Illinois Marine Towing company vehicles.
  • Provide delivery (driving) for Canal Barge Company and Illinois Marine Towing vessels, as needed.
  • Process invoices in the On Base software program and investigate/correct invoices as needed in support of the Accounting Department.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by the Purchasing Manager.

Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate
I. BASIC FUNCTION

The primary function is to assist with procurement of goods and services for vessels and internal customers. The Junior Buyer / Warehouse Associate is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly warehouse.

Ii. Responsibilities

IV. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The Junior Buyer/Warehouse Associate reports to the Procurement Manager.

Vi. Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing 40 lbs. minimum. This role requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
