Job summary

Widewail, a Burlington, VT based startup, is hiring a Backend Engineer to transform high‑level ideas into reliable software. You will help define product‑level architecture, build backend services, and ensure quality through testing and reviews.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, integrate third‑party APIs, and participate in deployments while learning our systems. Remote US-based candidates are welcome.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of backend development experience through internships, projects, or prior roles.
• Understanding of HTTP and RESTful APIs.
• SQL fundamentals and ability to query a relational database such as MySQL or Postgres.
• Git proficiency and experience working in pull requests.
• Testing basics with JUnit or similar, and a habit of validating your changes.
• Communicates clearly, asks good questions, and is receptive to feedback.

Backend Engineer

The backend developer will be responsible for taking high‑level ideas and transforming them into working software. You will have the creative flexibility to help define and design our user‑facing products both in terms of the user experience and the software architecture. You are responsible for ensuring the quality and correct operation of your own work. You are responsible for the successful deployment and monitoring of your work. The position would be based either in our Burlington, VT – OR – U.S. based remote.

What You’ll Do

• Comfort with Java and basic Spring Boot concepts.
• Curiosity about serverless patterns such as AWS Lambda.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
