Job summary

Brooksource is seeking an entry-level Associate AI Software Developer for Agentic Commerce in Grand Rapids, MI. This 12-month contract role focuses on prompt engineering and agent quality, with three senior developers guiding you. You will contribute to evals, datasets, guardrails, and live agent prompts.

You will join Brooksource Elevate, designed to bridge education and in-demand IT roles, delivering hands-on training, mentoring, and a clear growth path into a full-time IT career.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, or Python.
• Demonstrable curiosity about LLMs through coursework, side projects, or opinions on prompt failures.
• Fundamentals: Git, writing tests, reading unfamiliar code, HTTP/REST.
• Clear written communication.

Responsibilities

• Build evals and datasets; catch quality regressions before customers.
• Prompt engineering for a live, customer-facing agent: tone, refusals, guardrails.
• Debug agent behavior via Langfuse traces.
• Work on features in a Temporal-based agent harness.
• Develop Chat UI in React/Next.js; write tests; code review.

Our large retail client is looking for an entry-level AI Software Developer!

The focus is prompt engineering and agent quality — evals, golden datasets, LLM-as-judge scoring. This team is brand new this year at our client- with 3 Senior Developers. What they need is someone to bring depth in prompt engineering for a consumer-facing agent.

What You Will Receive:

Day to day

• Building evals and datasets; catching quality regressions before customers do
• Prompt engineering for a live customer‑facing agent — tone, refusals, guardrails

• Feature work in our Temporal‑based agent harness
• Chat UI in React/Next.js; tests; code review

Must have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
• Working proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, or Python
• Demonstrable curiosity about LLMs — coursework, side projects, or an articulate opinion about why a prompt failed
• Fundamentals: Git, writing tests, reading unfamiliar code, HTTP/REST
• Clear written communication

Preferred — React/Next.js · any GCP or Azure exposure · Docker, CI/CD · hands‑on use of AI coding tools · any exposure to prompt evaluation.

Each associate is paired with one of my senior engineers as a mentor.
