Job summary

Matrix Service Co is seeking a skilled scaffold builder to erect, modify, inspect, and dismantle scaffolding in industrial settings. You will read drawings and work instructions to determine design and material needs, assemble components, and perform mandatory pre-use inspections.

  • Assemble and install scaffold components including frames, braces, planks, ladders, handrails, toe boards, and access systems.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of scaffolding and identify deficiencies requiring corrective action.
  • Select and maintain scaffold materials, tools, and equipment for assigned work activities.
  • Ensure scaffolding safely supports required loads and intended use.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow housekeeping requirements.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work from elevated surfaces.

Job description

Erects, modifies, and dismantles various types of scaffolding systems in industrial, refinery, maintenance, turnaround, and construction environments. Works from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to provide safe access solutions for employees performing work at elevated locations while maintaining compliance with all safety standards and company procedures.

Job Functions:

  • Perform duties within a precise limit or standard of accuracy (Quality Control)
  • Erect, modify, inspect, and dismantle scaffolding systems in accordance with applicable OSHA regulations and site requirements
  • Interpret scaffold drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine scaffold design and material requirements
  • Assemble and install scaffold components including frames, braces, planks, ladders, handrails, toe boards, and access systems
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of scaffolding and identify deficiencies requiring corrective action
  • Select and maintain proper scaffold materials, tools, and equipment for assigned work activities
  • Ensure scaffolding is erected to safely support required loads and intended use
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all housekeeping requirements
  • Climb ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work from elevated or uneven surfaces
  • Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
  • Must work well with supervision
  • May be required to train and supervise apprentices
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned
Qualifications:
  • Competent Person for Scaffolding required
  • Previous mining, industrial maintenance, refinery, turnaround, or heavy construction experience preferred
  • Thorough understanding of scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling procedures
  • Must be able to read and interpret scaffold plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards and protocols
  • Must demonstrate scaffold building proficiency through testing, certification, or documented experience
  • Able to communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and other departments about issues and solutions
  • Knowledge of fall protection systems and elevated work requirements
  • Experience using scaffold tools, measuring devices, and material handling equipment
  • Complete the Company's Safety training, Process Safety Management training, and client/site-specific training
  • Must obtain and maintain active status within the appropriate drug testing program
  • Must pass background check
Physical Requirements:
  • Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
  • Must be able to hear, speak, understand, and communicate effectively
  • May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
  • Will regularly work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work from scaffolds and elevated platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Will use arms and hands to grasp, lift, position, and secure scaffold components
  • Must possess sufficient strength, endurance, and agility to safely perform scaffold erection and dismantlement activities
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, fall protection equipment, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots

The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, the actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $25.00 to $45.00 per hour

Full range for this position, available over time: $25.00 to $45.00 per hour
