Job summary

City of Chicago’s Department of Aviation, Facilities Section seeks a journey-level Sheet Metal Worker to fabricate, install and repair duct systems, gutters and related components in city facilities. Under supervision, you will read blueprints, ensure material readiness, and perform installations. The role operates 7:00 am–3:30 pm, Mon–Fri with a starting salary of $56.85 per hour.

Location is 11601 W. Touhy Ave, Building 891; candidates must pass tests and background checks and hold a valid

Qualifications

US Department of Labor registered sheet metal apprenticeship program and journeyman status.
Industry/company sponsored apprenticeship plus two years journey-level experience.
Six years journey-level experience as a Sheet Metal Worker, fabricating, installing, repairing and altering HVAC systems.
A Driver’s License is required at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

Reads blueprints, specifications and work orders to assess work required and determine methods.
Fabricate, install, and repair HVAC duct systems in city facilities.
Ensure adequate supplies of tools, equipment and materials at work sites.
Make calculations and use measuring devices for layout work.
Cut, bend and shape pieces using power tools; weld as needed.
Install sheet metal parts and products, joining them end to end and making connections with other units.
