Position: Journeyman Service Technician / Diesel Mechanic

$50/hour to $60/hour depending on experience

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Service Technician diagnoses and completes repairs on customer vehicles in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The Service Technician reports directly to the Service management team. They communicate with all relevant co-workers regarding daily duties, objectives, and timely completion of repair orders. They work closely with colleagues to coordinate repair strategies, estimates, and customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan daily repair strategies with the service team based on job priorities.
2. Determine work required from the repair order.
3. Diagnose vehicle issues based on customer complaints and operational checks.
4. Complete repairs efficiently within allocated time.
5. Perform quality repairs to minimize callbacks and unnecessary expenses.
6. Prepare complete and accurate repair documentation.
7. Road test vehicles to verify repairs (if CDL is possessed).
8. Record time and work progress regularly.
9. Ensure cores are returned and warranty parts are properly tagged and stored.
10. Coordinate with parts counter for required parts.
11. Maintain a clean and organized shop environment.
12. Maintain and adjust shop tools; notify management of needed repairs.
13. Assist in preparing accurate repair estimates as needed.
14. Update management on repair status regularly.
15. Work safely, avoiding hazards to self, others, and vehicles.
16. Maintain a full set of hand and air tools.
17. Leave vehicles in a clean condition, using seat covers and mats.
18. Be punctual for shifts, lunch, and breaks.
19. Limit diagnosis to two hours without approval.
20. Report additional repairs immediately.
21. Always wear safety glasses on the shop floor.
22. Follow regulations on hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, MSDS, etc.
23. Conduct oneself professionally, respecting the importance of customers to the business.
24. Prioritize company, customer, and safety first in all activities.
