Job summary

Action Facilities Management, INC (AFM) is hiring a Journeyman Plumber for our Washington, DC facility. The role requires a Journeyman Plumbers License in VA, MD, or DC, and a Top Secret Clearance is preferred.

The plumber will perform installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in a union environment. The position operates Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:00pm, with benefits including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurances through the union.

Qualifications

  • Top Secret Security Clearance required.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 5 years progressive experience as a plumber in a commercial facility.
  • Journeyman Plumbers License in VA, MD, or DC.
  • Knowledge of water distribution systems, drains, plumbing systems, sprinkler systems, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage.
  • Study plans to determine work sequence and required tools.
  • Inspect structures to avoid obstructions during installation.
  • Locate and mark pipe positions using ruler, level, and plumb bob.
  • Cut openings in walls/floors for pipe installations using hand and power tools.
  • Thread and bend pipes as required; install above-ground and in-ground fittings.
  • Work from blueprints and layouts; unload materials to the jobsite.
  • Diagnose plumbing system faults and document actions and results.
  • Maintain a safe work environment per OSHA and company policies.
  • Respond quickly to emergency calls and provide safe directions.

Position Summary

A Journeyman Plumber license in Maryland, Virginia, or DC is required for this position. Active Top Secret Clearance preferred.

The Plumber is responsible for performing all plumbing trades functions necessary to assemble, install, maintain, and repair fixtures, equipment, and systems related to the facility. This position is responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance needs of the facility as it relates to plumbing infrastructure. The plumber will be required to possess and maintain a Journeyman Plumbers License.

Shift: Monday- Friday, 6:00am - 2:00pm

Essential Job Functions
  • Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.
  • Bends pipe to required angle
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications
  • Unloading and carrying materials to the jobsite
  • Assisting with the installation of pipe and fittings for copper, cast iron, and PVC/CPVC pipes, and for drain, sewer, and gas lines
  • Utilizing hand tools and cutters to cut pipe to desired lengths and electric and hand threaders to thread pipe
  • Installing fittings and components above and inground
  • Locates and diagnoses trouble in the plumbing systems or equipment
  • Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation
  • Repair plumbing issues by replacing or installing components
  • Determine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and also through reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to immediate supervisor
  • Answer emergency calls quickly, assess the safety of the situation upon first arriving at the scene and provide directions to individuals affected
  • Maintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time. Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders.

Working Environment

Work takes place in a commercial facility with indoor/ outdoor exposure. Employee may be exposed to loud noises due to machinery or equipment.
