Job summary

Action Facilities Management, INC in the District of Columbia area seeks a Journeyman Plumber for commercial facility maintenance. The role requires a Journeyman Plumber license in VA, MD, or DC and a preference for active Top Secret Clearance. The plumber performs installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems and must read blueprints.

Shifts are Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:00pm. Benefits include fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurances through the union.

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance preferred and required for some roles.
  • Journeyman Plumber license in VA, MD, or DC is required.
  • 5+ years progressive plumbing experience in commercial facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures per codes.
  • Inspect structures and locate pipe passages to avoid damage.
  • Maintain plumbing systems, diagnose issues, and document actions.
  • Work from blueprints and drawings; operate hand and power tools.
  • Respond to emergency calls and ensure safety compliance.

Pay Rate: $43.65. This will be a union positionBenefits: Employee is eligible for fully paid comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurances with the union.Position Summary:A Journeyman Plumber license in Maryland, Virginia, or DC is required for this position. Active Top Secret Clearance preferred.The Plumber is responsible for performing all plumbing trades functions necessary to assemble, install, maintain, and repair fixtures, equipment, and systems related to the facility. This position is responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance needs of the facility as it relates to plumbing infrastructure. The plumber will be required to possess and maintain a Journeyman Plumbers License.Shift: Monday- Friday, 6:00am - 2:00pmEssential Job Functions:Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.Studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.Bends pipe to required angleWorks from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specificationsUnloading and carrying materials to the jobsiteAssisting with the installation of pipe and fittings for copper, cast iron, and PVC/CPVC pipes, and for drain, sewer, and gas linesUtilizing hand tools and cutters to cut pipe to desired lengths and electric and hand threaders to thread pipeInstalling fittings and components above and ingroundLocates and diagnoses trouble in the plumbing systems or equipmentDocument actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situationRepair plumbing issues by replacing or installing componentsDetermine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and mapsMaintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and also through reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to immediate supervisorAnswer emergency calls quickly, assess the safety of the situation upon first arriving at the scene and provide directions to individuals affectedMaintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate supervisorOther duties as assignedRequired Skills, Experience, and Education:Top Secret Security ClearanceHigh School Diploma or Equivalent5 years progressive experience as a plumber in a commercial facilityKnowledge of water distribution systems, drains, plumbing systems, sprinkler systems, etc.Journeyman Plumbers License in VA, MD, or DCAbility to communicate effectively with a variety of coworkers and government stakeholdersKnowledge of computers and basic computer applicationsAbility to read and understand blueprints and schematicsAbility to effectively complete tasks in a team setting or independentlyAbility to effectively utilize resources to maximize productivityAbility to work independently or in a teamEquipment Used:Tools related to plumbing system maintenance and repair, test equipment, and safety gearPhysical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time. Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders.Working Environment:Work takes place in a commercial facility with indoor/ outdoor exposure.
