Job summary

General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitters) in Lansing, MI. Work under minimal supervision with independent judgment to tackle multiple shift assignments. Safety and quality are emphasized in all tasks.

The role requires experience with piping, mechanical and hydraulic components, and CNC setup. Candidates should be able to read blueprints and operate mobile equipment, with willingness to work flexible shifts and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Completed Apprenticeship Certificate or 6+ years experience in a mechanical trade.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
• Use various hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
• Read and interpret blueprints for the mechanical operation and assembly of conveyor systems and automation
• Operate mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts, vertical lifts, cranes)
• Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting
• Set up and operate CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, etc.
• Fabricate punches, tools, and fixtures to exact specs
• Plan sequences of operations using blueprints or models
• Determine quality of finished products with measuring instruments

Education

U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate in Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or six years of documented experience in a Mechanical trade
