Job summary

Office of the Illinois Secretary of State in Villa Park seeks a journeyman Maintenance Painter to perform interior and exterior painting, decorating, and refinishing of buildings and furnishings, with possible supervision of apprentices.

Duties include preparing surfaces, applying paints and finishes, mixing colors, erecting ladders or scaffolding, patching plaster, and ensuring quality work. Requires completion of a union apprenticeship and a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of a union apprenticeship to qualify as journeyman painter.
• Experience painting interior and exterior surfaces and refinishing work.
• Ability to lift up to 90 lbs. and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepares interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceilings, and equipment for painting.
• Applies paint, shellacs, varnish, enamel, stain, or other finishes.
• Mixes and matches paints; erects ladders or scaffolding.
• Patches plaster; may instruct apprentices; performs other duties as required.
