Qualifications

• Requires completion of a union-sponsored apprenticeship to qualify as a journeyman painter.
• Proficient in painting surfaces and applying finishes; able to read and follow written specifications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and finish interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceilings, and equipment for painting.
• Apply paints, shellacs, varnish, enamel, stain, or other protectives.
• Mix and match paints; prepare surfaces.
• Erect ladders or scaffolding; apply sizing materials.
• Remove excess paint and glaze windows; patch surfaces as needed.
• May supervise apprentice painters.
