Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking a Journeyman Mechanic to maintain and repair electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a manufacturing setting. The role emphasizes safety, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with a unionized plant.

Qualified candidates will have experience in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting, PLC familiarity, and the ability to work in tight spaces. A high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience and high proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields.
• Experience in electrical troubleshooting is required.
• Computer operation and PLC experience preferred.
• High precision with minimum tolerances.
• Ability to work in tight spaces and on heavy machinery.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment.
• Maintains and improves a safe working environment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment following safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
• Advises operators on safe operation of equipment.
• Maintains performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance as directed.
• Assists other maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and training.
• Performs other duties as required.

Rate: $27.23 – $39.92

Job Description:

The Reliability Technician primary responsibilities, with safety in mind, are to maintains, tests, and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components. Possessing welding and machining skills are a plus. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in analytically determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing for a unionized plant.

How you will impact WestRock:

• Is responsible for maintaining and improving a safe working environment for all.
• Analytically, Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
• Advises operators of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
• Informs appropriate management and supervision personnel of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
• Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
• Assists other maintenance personnel and other technical level employees with technical troubleshooting and training.
• Performs other duties as required.

What you need to succeed:

• Must be highly safety conscious.
• Proven experience and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in the mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields are required
• Experience in electrical troubleshooting.
• Computer experience/operation and PLC required.
• High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
• Ability to climb, bent stoop, kneel, and to work beneath, in and on top of machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work for prolong periods.
• High school diploma or its equivalent required.
