Cotulla Education in Norfolk, VA seeks an experienced Journeyman Lineworker Instructor to train the next generation for the power distribution field. This role blends hands-on field knowledge with classroom instruction in a climate-controlled setting and offers a stable schedule with strong benefits.

You will teach safety, OSHA/NESC standards, climb and rescue techniques, mentor students, update materials, and collaborate with industry partners to enhance training and employment opportunities.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Lineman with minimum of three (3) years of field experience performing journeyman-level or equivalent lineman duties in power distribution, telecommunications, or related work.
• Demonstrated expertise in linework theory and practice, with up-to-date knowledge of current standards.
• Ability to climb utility poles using appropriate equipment and perform pole-top and bucket rescue techniques.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and other applicable safety regulations.
• Ability to teach a diverse student body in a compliance-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); campus Nexus is a plus.

• Flexible hours as required.

Journeyman Lineworker Instructor – Norfolk, Virginia

This role is ideal for a journeyman ready to step off the road and into a consistent, mission-driven instructor position, without losing touch with the hands-on work that matters. Position Purpose

The Electrical Lineworker program prepares students for entry-level roles in the utility industry through focused safety training, technical instruction, and hands-on fieldwork. Students learn essential skills in tool use, ladder and scaffold safety, electrical fundamentals, grounding, circuit analysis, and the proper use of PPE.

Training includes climbing and working on utility poles, inspecting climbing gear, performing pole-top rescues, and completing CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen certification. Students also gain experience with aerial framing, pole setting, rigging, trenching, and operating equipment such as bucket trucks and digger derricks.

Graduates leave with the practical skills and confidence needed to safely support electrical distribution of construction and maintenance and to advance into further technical training or apprenticeships.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s Degree in Electrical Systems Technology or related field preferred.

Experience / Skills

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• DOL or State-recognized Journeyman Lineman certificate required.
• Class A CDL (unrestricted).
• National Center for Construction Education and Research (The NCCER ICTP Certification is required before instructors start teaching classes. Company will pay for certification.)
• OSHA 10-hour safety certification within 6 months of hire date.
• CPR certification current or within 3 months of hire date.

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
• Ability to climb poles and structures using proper equipment.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 120 pounds.
• Visual acuity, balance, and ability to work at heights required.

Work Environment

• Instruction delivered in classrooms, labs, and outdoor training yards.
• Exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme weather, noise, vibration, and environmental hazards.
