Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking an experienced lineman to construct, repair and maintain energized and de-energized transmission and distribution lines to serve electrical customers. You will work at IPL Training Center and travel as needed, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

The role requires a high school diploma, a four-year apprenticeship or equivalent, and a Journeyman lineman certificate. CPR/First Aid are required, and some herbicide certification may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required.
• Equivalent to four-year formal apprenticeship such as the I.B.E.W. Lineman Apprenticeship Course.
• Journeyman lineman certificate or equivalent, CPR and First Aid.
• May be required to be certified to apply herbicides.
• 4 or more years experience in line construction, operation, maintenance work or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Install, tension, tie in and remove conductors.
• Install, frame and climb poles and structures.
• Operate basket trucks, digger trucks, trenchers, backhoes and other construction equipment.
• Restore electric service after weather or equipment failure.
• Install and maintain street and security lighting equipment.
• Operate and maintain hydraulic tools and systems.
• Install underground electrical equipment including cable, switchgear, and terminations.
• Know and follow safety and construction standards.
• CPR and First Aid.
• Must report fit for duty and free from drugs and alcohol.
