Job summary

International Paper in Springfield, Oregon is seeking an Hourly Maintenance Journeyman (J1) Pipefitter to join our industrial maintenance team. This role requires skilled pipefitting and mechanical work in a heavy manufacturing environment.

You will read blueprints, assemble and install pipes and valves, perform welding or brazing as needed, take field measurements, and conduct pressure testing to ensure integrity. Safety training and hands‑on assessment are part of the path to promotion.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum high school graduate, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Eligible for employment in the US.
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in PIPEFITTING.
  • Must be willing to meet safety and testing requirements.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Subject to drug screening and health assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Perform welding or brazing as needed.

  • Fabricate structural materials and pipes as needed.

  • Days (6am-4:30pm – Monday-Thursday)
Job Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Minimum high school graduate, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Eligible for employment in the US
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in any one of the following mechanical disciplines: PIPEFITTING
  • Must be willing to meet the following requirements:
  • Work in industrial conditions (may be warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, heavy machinery, elevated working surfaces, and confined spaces (with proper safety training and safety protection)
  • Undergo technical online testing, interview, and a formal hands‑on assessment of skills
  • Undergo a drug screen for illicit use of drugs as a condition of employment
  • Undergo an job related health assessment as a condition of employment
  • Submit to periodic drug screens as a condition of employment
  • Work any shift and/or a rotating shift schedule
  • Work overtime on a regular basis and with last minute notification
  • Work holidays and/or weekends on a regular basis
  • Wear required safety equipment
It is preferred that candidates have the following skills and/or experience(s):
  • Associates degree or certification(s) in any of the following mechanical disciplines: MILLWRIGHT, MACHINIST, WELDING, or PIPEFITTING
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in any one of the following mechanical disciplines: PIPEFITTING
  • Relevant work experience in an industrial environment.
The Job You Will Perform

This position will assist journeymen‑level mechanical maintenance technicians in routine maintenance work as well as performing many duties independently. Our world class Global Manufacturing Training program provides paid hands‑on experiences and classroom instruction in order to prepare you for your next promotion
