Job summary

CoolSys - Refrigeration and HVAC Systems is seeking a Journeyman HVAC technician responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining systems while ensuring safety and compliance. The role involves interpreting blueprints, coordinating labor and material costs, and guiding junior technicians in a dynamic field.

You will work across commercial refrigeration, electrical, and fixture construction, with hands-on skills in hand and power tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and related trade training.
  • Valid journeyman license or certification in the relevant trade.
  • 3–5 years of experience in construction, refrigeration, electrical or fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets blueprints as needed to ensure timely, quality project completion.
  • Coordinates and follows job schedules; manages labor hours and material costs.
  • Installs heating, cooling, ventilation systems, ductwork, thermostats, air handlers, and refrigeration units.
  • Performs system start-ups and ensures proper operation of installed systems.
  • Guides junior technicians and ensures safety practices on site.

Job Summary

The Journeyman 1‑HVAC is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining systems or structures, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing guidance to other service techs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides support by interpreting blueprints as needed by foreman to ensure a timely and quality completion of the project.
  • Provides support by coordinating and following job schedules; i.e., labor hours, and material costs.
  • Install heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, including ductwork, thermostats, air handlers, and refrigeration units.
  • Perform system start‑ups and ensure proper functioning of installed systems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and good mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety, ability to oversee work activities to ensure safe work practices and safety rule compliance.
  • Provide guidance to junior technicians.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Training
  • High school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes.
  • Valid journeyman's license or certification in the relevant specialty trade.
Work Experience / Skills
  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry preferred and hands on field experience in commercial refrigeration, electrical and/or fixtures construction.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and machinery related to the trade.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Good driving record.
  • Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
  • Ability to use typical business tools including E‑Mail, Word, Excel, etc.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This job typically operates in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service and/or construction environments with a need to work at heights from ladders and/or scissor lifts. Mechanical rooms can have elevated noise levels. The position regularly works near/with refrigeration/HVAC equipment that can expose the workers to extreme cold from refrigerant and high heat from brazing operations. This role routinely works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. These conditions require employees to use the correct PPE and safe work practices.

This position is very active and requires excellent stamina to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Employees are regularly required to walk and stand for long periods, hear, drive, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, use hands and fingers, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
