Job description

Journeyman Flooring Installer

Craftsman Hardwood Flooring | San Angelo, TX | Full-Time

Who We Are

Craftsman Hardwood Flooring is a high-end wood flooring company specializing in hardwood installation, sanding and finishing, custom and patterned flooring, stair systems, and restoration. But we are more than a flooring company.

We believe our work is about craftsmanship, integrity, service, legacy, and people. Standing on the shoulders of the generations before us, we believe in passing on the knowledge and tools of the trade — building up skilled craftsmen who grow in both skill and character. We work not only to enrich ourselves, but to give back to our community, because a rising tide lifts all boats. That is the Craftsman Difference: excellent work, developed people, and a culture where customers, employees, and the larger community are all strengthened through what we build.

Our Core Values

1. Craftsmanship with Integrity — We do excellent work the right way, even when no one is watching. Pride in the details, honest communication, and work we are proud to put our name on.

2. Building People & Legacy — We invest in people, pass on the tools of the trade, and use our success to bless others. Every person on this team has the opportunity to grow in skill, character, and contribution.

We have invested in systems, training, career development, and performance standards that go well beyond what most flooring or construction companies offer. This is not a dead-end trade job. This is a career, and we are committed to investing in yours.

What We're Looking For

We are not simply hiring a technician. We are looking for a craftsman. Flooring experience is required for this role. But beyond the skills, we are looking for someone whose character matches the work — someone who takes pride in quality, owns their mistakes, retains training, solves problems, and genuinely enjoys working with their hands.

The Role

The Journeyman Flooring Installer is a full-time, field-based position covering the complete lifecycle of a flooring project, from initial site assessment and subfloor preparation through final installation, finishing, and cleanup. You will bring proven skill to the job, represent the Craftsman standard in every home you enter, and help set the bar for our team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assess job sites; identify subfloor issues, moisture concerns, or complications before beginning work
  • Remove existing flooring; clean, patch, and level subfloors to a professional standard
  • Measure, calculate, and cut flooring materials, and trim to precise specifications
  • Install flooring using adhesives, nails, staples, mortar, or interlocking systems per manufacturer specs
  • Apply finishes, grout, sealants, and stains when applicable; install transitions, baseboards, and trim
  • Maintain a clean, safe job site throughout; remove all debris at project completion
  • Interact professionally with customers; represent the Craftsman name with integrity in every home you enter
  • Follow company systems, digital checklists, and SOPs consistently
  • Contribute to the development of apprentices as the team grows
What You Bring

Non-Negotiables

  • Demonstrated experience in hardwood flooring installation — this is a journeyman-level position
  • Genuine enjoyment of physical, hands-on work — this is not optional
  • Personal responsibility: you show up, keep commitments, and own your mistakes
  • Attention to detail and a quality standard that bothers you when it is not met
  • Ability to retain training and apply it consistently — not just a willingness to learn
  • Coachable: you accept feedback, adjust, and improve without defensiveness
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites in and around San Angelo

Preferred

  • Experience with hardwood, LVP, tile, carpet, or additional finish trades
  • Background in installation, sanding, finishing, custom patterns, or stair systems
  • Comfort with basic technology: smartphone, company apps, digital checklists

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry materials up to 75–100 lbs
  • Kneel, bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Work indoors and occasionally outdoors; must be able to work in Texas conditions when required
Compensation & Performance Pay

Pay Range: $20 – $22/hr base | $42,000 – $70,000+ annually

At Craftsman, you will always be paid for the value you bring — not a flat rate that ignores your performance. Our compensation model is built on performance pay. There is no artificial ceiling, no reason to leave money on the table, and no desire on our part to pay you less than you are worth. Our goal is to pay every team member exactly what they earn and to reward those who produce. High performers have the potential to earn more than their base pay through our performance pay system. Base hourly pay is increased in proportion to demonstrated performance bonuses.

*Advancement is based on demonstrated competency, quality, productivity, and contribution — not time served. There is no cap on earning potential.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday; occasional Saturday during peak season Classification: W-2 Employee

Benefits & Professional Development

Retirement After 90 days of employment, you will be eligible to enroll in our Simple IRA plan with 3% company matching.

Paid Time Off After your first year of employment, you will receive 5 days of PTO, with an additional day added for each subsequent year of service.

We do not currently offer health benefits. We are transparent about this upfront.

Continuing Education & Certification Upon completing your initial 90 days, we will enroll you in NWFA University — the online training and certification program of the National Wood Flooring Association. Upon completing certification and your first year of employment, we will send you to on-site training through the National Flooring Association in either St. Louis or Dallas. Your development does not stop at hiring — it starts there.

Why Craftsman

We exist to do excellent work, grow excellent people, and use our business as a force for good. The team members who thrive here are motivated by pride in workmanship, mastering their craft, financial opportunity, and being part of something that lasts.

We want every customer to experience the Craftsman Difference — and we want every team member to know they are part of something meaningful.
