Job summary

City of Melbourne is seeking a skilled electrical tradesperson to inspect, install, repair, and maintain electrical systems across city facilities and street lights. This role involves some electrical design work and requires adherence to NEC, UL, and life-safety codes, with supervision under the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

The position demands the ability to read schematics, work from ladders or bucket trucks, lift heavy equipment, and respond to emergency power system needs as required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• Considerable progressively responsible experience in electrical construction and maintenance work, some years at a journeyman level.
• Required Brevard County Journeyman certification (uploads copy with application).
• Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement or ability to obtain CDL within 90 days; Florida license within six months.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair wiring, lighting, and electrical systems on City facilities and street lights, ensuring safe operation per code standards.
• Respond to trouble calls to diagnose problems and determine needed materials; handle 480-volt street light circuits and 277-volt 3-phase circuits.
• Use electronic testing equipment, maintain records, and complete job orders; keep tools in good order.
