Nelson Electric is looking for a dependable Journeyman Electrician II in our Ames office to work on various projects in Central Iowa. Qualified candidates will hold a State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman, or Master Electrician license, and be proficient in commercial and light-industrial applications. Residential experience is a plus.

The Journeyman Electrician II is responsible for being a productive team member, delivering a quality product, maintaining excellent customer relations, and completing project documentation. On larger projects, the Journeyman Electrician II may work under the supervision of the Foreman Electrician and oversee helpers and apprentices. On smaller projects, the Journeyman Electrician serves as the lead electrician, responsible for the successful completion of the project and may supervise only one or no helpers or apprentices.

Job Duties

• Adhere to Electrical Code and local amendments
• Install electrical systems: layout, rough-in, and trim of lighting, power, and low-voltage systems
• Test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain systems and components
• Inspect systems for hazards or defects and correct unsafe conditions
• Ensure quality of work
• Plan projects, including material and workforce management
• Manage multiple jobs and deadlines
• Follow safety procedures and participate in safety training
• Supervise and instruct apprentice and helper electricians
• Coordinate with other contractors
• Complete paperwork accurately and promptly
• Maintain job documentation and report changes
• Keep worksite and tools clean and well-maintained
• Use equipment safely and return in good condition
• Read and interpret drawings and schematics
• Be available for on-call emergency work

Education, Licensing, and Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Driver's License
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
• Experience with EMT bending and installation
• Threading Rigid pipe up to 4 inches
• Experience with LV Fire Alarm systems
• Knob and tube wiring experience (demolition and replacement)
• Data cabling and termination experience
• Explosion-proof power and lighting systems installation
• EV charger installation experience
• Cabinet print reading
• Lighting controls
• Generator startup
• At least 3 years as a Journeyman Electrician

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, or kneel for long periods
• Lift 50 lbs overhead and 100 lbs to waist height regularly
• Work at heights
• Wear PPE (provided by the company)
• Work in all weather conditions
