This is a permanent contracting position with an hourly pay rate. You will be entitled to healthcare benefits.
Emergency Power Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up procedures, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (ranging from 480 Volt to 600 kV). The technician shall complete automatic transfer switch service and troubleshooting, along with testing of low and medium switchgear and circuit breakers. The role includes rotating emergency on-call duties, responding promptly to customer emergencies, and performing all duties in accordance with company policies, US state and federal laws, and regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing implementation of procedures and tasks provided by the Director and project manager.
- Driving locally/regionally daily and being available for periodic overnight travel.
- Completing assigned tasks safely and professionally.
- Supervising apprentice training and labor to ensure safety and quality.
- Estimating resources and participants needed for project goals.
- Managing project expectations with team members and management.
- Participating in on-call rotations.
- Delegating tasks to appropriate personnel.
- Resolving issues within the project team.
- Managing project dependencies and critical paths.
- Planning and scheduling project timelines and milestones.
- Tracking project milestones and deliverables.
- Attending in-state and out-of-state training courses.
- Developing and delivering progress reports, proposals, and documentation.
- Managing project scope changes and potential crises with contingency plans.
- Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of electrical industry standards and codes.
- Experience in electrical equipment installation and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; experience with electrical system programs is a plus.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Ability to work safely following electrical safety procedures.
- Preferred certifications: OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens, AED training.
- Active Journeyman Electrician Certification Card from California.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial Journeyman experience.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in Electrical Power & Controls or EE degree preferred.
- Military training in electrical power production is a plus.
- Additional certifications like ATS, PLC, UPS, NETA (II, III, IV) are advantageous.
Required Skills:
- Emergency Power Foreman experience.
Certifications & Clearance Requirements:
- NETA Certification (II, III, or IV) preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens, AED training preferred.
- Manufacturing certifications for ATS, PLC, UPS, and other equipment are a plus.
- Active Journeyman Electrician Certification Card from California.
