Job summary

Taurus Industrial Group seeks a Journeyman Electrician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems in industrial settings. You will read schematics, install panels, and support commissioning while working safely and efficiently.

You will mentor apprentices, ensure compliance with NEC and regulations, and perform documentation and preventive maintenance to support plant operations across multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid Electrical License, certification, or equivalent documented work experience as required by state or local regulations.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industrial electrical experience preferred.
  • Experience in industrial construction, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, power generation, or related environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Valid driver's license with insurable record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings and site-specific requirements.
  • TWIC card and/or other site credentials may be required depending on project location.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test industrial electrical systems and equipment.
  • Install conduit, cable trays, raceways, supports, wiring, and electrical components.
  • Pull, terminate, splice, and test conductors and control wiring.
  • Install and connect motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, control panels, and distribution equipment.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Diagnose electrical malfunctions and determine corrective actions.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and project specs.
  • Perform electrical testing using meters and diagnostic tools.
  • Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, and system verification.
  • Ensure work complies with codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Complete required documentation and maintenance records.
  • Provide guidance to apprentices and less experienced personnel.

Summary

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment in industrial environments. This position works independently and as part of a team to ensure electrical systems are installed and maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable codes, specifications, and company standards. The Journeyman Electrician may also provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and helpers while supporting project and maintenance operations.

  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safe work practices.
  • Ability to install, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Skilled in conduit bending, cable installation, terminations, and equipment hookups.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment, meters, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead, train, and mentor apprentices and helpers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

Essential Functions

Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
  • Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
  • hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hearing protection, FR clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, respiratory protection and other project-specific PPE.
  • Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
  • Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
  • Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
  • Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
