Job summary

Control Tech in Midland, TX is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to perform on-site installation, servicing, diagnostics and repairs across electrical systems and equipment in industrial automation projects.

The ideal candidate will read P&ID and electrical schematics, work with PLCs and sensors, and participate in on-call schedules while mentoring junior technicians and upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Journeyman or interprovincial Red Seal certificate in electrical is required.
• Experience with pressure and/or electrical test equipment is an asset.
• Ability to read P&ID drawings and electrical schematics.
• Willingness to work long hours and be on-call as required.
• Proven background checks including pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.
• Clean driving record in line with company standards.

Responsibilities

• Completes QA/QC redlines for as-built construction drawings.
• Reads and interprets schematics and drawings related to electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications.
• Repairs and adjusts system components (sensors, transmitters, PLCs); replaces defective parts.
• Puts wire through conduits and connects circuits; tests circuits for safety and integrity.
• Maintains daily field work orders, tracks hours and equipment use.
• Produces monthly warehouse inventory reports and supports inventory transfers.
• Mentors juniors and supports on-the-job training documentation.
• Provides on-call support and adheres to safety programs and policies.

Job Brief:

The Journeyman Electrician will provide on-site installation, servicing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs for customer electrical products, systems, and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation and commissioning, with hands-on experience supporting equipment startup, controls, electrical systems, and system integration.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Completes QA/QC redlines for as-built construction drawings.
• Reads and interprets schematics and drawings related to electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications.
• Repairs and adjusts system components (sensors, transmitters, programmable logic controllers, etc.); removes and replaces defective parts.
• Pulls wire through conduits, holes, and splice, join, and/or connect wire to form circuits.
• Tests circuits to ensure integrity and safety.
• Completes daily field work orders and maintains hours worked and equipment used.
• Completes inventory transfers and provides monthly warehouse inventory reports.
• Senior Journeyman will complete on the job training documents for Junior Technicians.
• Mentors/trains electrical apprentices.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Journeyman or interprovincial Red Seal Certificate in electrical.
• Technical training or experience in the oil and gas industry is an asset.
• Experience using pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings.
• Ability to work long hours and participate in on-call schedule as required.
• Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and use an ERP system, IFS w/ Aurena Tech Portal preferred.
• Standard First Aid/CPR with AED, H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
• Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
• Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
