Job summary

Genequip is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical and mechanical systems on aggregate equipment power systems in an industrial setting. You will apply electrical theory and mechanical principles to restore equipment to operation and provide skilled support across manufacturing.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installing and starting up equipment, ensuring safety procedures, and maintaining maintenance records.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma and two years of formal technical training.
• Licensed journeyman electrician or an experienced apprentice willing to obtain journeyman.
• Two years of journeyman experience installing/maintaining electrical systems.
• 1-2 years in electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and read blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems controlling mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and power generation equipment.
• Plan and perform work with knowledge of electrical codes and material properties.
• Install, startup and shutdown equipment following safety procedures and OSHA rules.
• Advise operators on safe operating procedures and requirements.
• Maintain performance and maintenance records for equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and assist with technical troubleshooting.
• Train other maintenance/technical staff as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job description

The Journeyman Electrician will conduct, maintain, test and repair electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components in an industrial setting primarily on Aggregate Equipment Power Systems. Apply knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provide skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Troubleshoot and repair Electrical systems/components controlling mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and power generation equipment in an Industrial setting including but not limited to Programmable/Numeral Controls, PLC’s, Drives, VFD’s, Switch Gear Panels and Power Supplies, Sensors, Gauges and Test Equipment.
• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
• Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
• Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
• Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
• Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
• Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
• Performs other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Educational background must include a high school diploma and two years of formal technical training.
• Must have proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design.
• Must be a licensed journeyman electrician or an experienced apprentice electrician willing/able obtain their journeyman license.
• Two years of Journeyman’s experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
• 1-2 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
• Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
• High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
• Exposed to high voltage electricity.
• Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
• Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
• Must be highly safety conscious.
• Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.
• Must be willing to travel as there may be some overnight field service work involved from time to time, this may also include traveling with very short notice at times.
