Job summary

Otter Tail Power Company seeks an Electrical Technician I or II to join our team. You will install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain high/medium voltage substation equipment while supporting transmission, distribution, and generation systems that power our communities.

This hands-on role requires strong problem solving, sound judgment in emergencies, and capable documentation. Travel is expected; reports to the Supervisor Operations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (2-year) in Electrical/Electronic Technology or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of electrical and electronic schematics and diagrams.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
• Sound judgment, especially in emergency situations.
• Ability to work outdoors and with a team; maintain positive customer interactions.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and use ladders and arial lifts.
• Residence within 30 miles of permanent headquarters; valid driver's license and medical card or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Travel across our system as needed to support operations and respond to challenges.
• Play a key role in system reliability by responding to direction from the System Operator during system events or emergencies.

This position reports to Supervisor Operations.

What You’ll Do

• Perform mechanical and electrical testing on Apparatus such as circuit breakers, reclosers, regulators, transformers, battery banks, capacitors, relays, in energized facilities.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of electrical and electronic schematics and diagrams.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
• Sound judgment, especially in emergency situations.
• Ability to work outdoors, cooperatively with team members, and maintain positive customer interactions.
• Ability to lift 50lbs, use ladders and arial lifts
• Employees are required to establish residence within 30 miles of permanent headquarters.
• A valid driver’s license and a medical card or the ability to obtain one is required for this position.
