Job summary

Gibralter Border Barriers in Texas is hiring a Journeyman to support the manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and commissioning of engineered vehicle barrier systems. You will fabricate, assemble, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment to meet safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a Journeyman certification and at least 3 years of experience in manufacturing or related skilled trades, with strong blueprint reading and troubleshooting abilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled trade work per drawings, instructions, specs and standards.
• Install, fabricate, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair components.
• Read blueprints and interpret schematics and BOMs.
• Inspect work to ensure quality and safety compliance.
• Diagnose equipment issues and minimize downtime.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and trade machinery.
• Support manufacturing, production, field installation and service.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality and Field Service.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and materials used.
• Assist with setup, preventive maintenance and process improvements.
• Mentor apprentices and less experienced staff.
• Keep work area clean and safe per safety policies.

The Journeyman is responsible for performing skilled trade work to support the manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and commissioning of Gibraltar's engineered vehicle barrier systems and related equipment. This position applies advanced technical knowledge to fabricate, assemble, install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment while ensuring all work meets Gibraltar's quality standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform skilled trade work in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and company standards.
• Install, fabricate, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, structural, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical components as assigned.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and bills of materials.
• Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with Gibraltar quality standards and customer requirements.
• Diagnose equipment and production issues and recommend effective solutions to minimize downtime.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and trade-specific machinery.
• Support manufacturing, production, field installation, commissioning, and service activities as needed.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Field Service teams to resolve technical challenges and improve processes.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, inspections, repairs, and materials used.
• Assist with equipment setup, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor apprentices, technicians, or less experienced employees by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all Gibraltar safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Journeyman certification, license, or equivalent documented skilled trade experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, fabrication, construction, or a related skilled trade.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Preferred

• Experience in heavy manufacturing or custom equipment fabrication.
• Experience working with vehicle barrier systems, industrial machinery, structural steel, or automated equipment.
• Forklift, overhead crane, or aerial lift certification.
• Welding, machining, rigging, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical experience.
• ERP experience, with Global Shop Solutions experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and climb throughout the workday.
• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting with assistance or mechanical equipment.
• Ability to work in manufacturing and outdoor environments as needed.
• Manual dexterity to safely operate tools, machinery, and measuring equipment.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
