Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform milling and fabrication of doors, cabinets, shelves, chalk boards, tables, dollies, and louvers, as well as furniture repairs and structural modifications. A high school diploma or GED and completion of the district’s Carpentry apprenticeship are required, with the ability to read drawings and estimate costs.

Must possess power and hand tool skills, work safely from ladders/scaffolding, provide own tools, and follow

Qualifications

• Requires standard high school diploma or GED.
• Completion of Broward County School District Carpentry apprenticeship program.
• Ability to read drawings or sketches and estimate materials, supplies, and labor costs.
• Ability to use power and hand tools with minimal supervision.
• Thorough knowledge of wood and hardware; select proper wood for each job.
• Safe work from ladders and scaffolding; comply with safety rules.
• Provide own hand tools.
• Follow oral and written instructions; work well with others.
• Ability to take responsibility and complete repairs without assistance.
• Willing to respond to emergency calls, including off hours.
• Must have Florida driver's license; pre-employment drug/alcohol testing.
• Computer skills as required.

Responsibilities

• Milling and fabrication of doors, cabinets, shelves, bulletin and chalk boards, tables, dollies, and louvers.
• Repair furniture including new tops and structural modifications.
• Estimate materials, supplies, and labor costs from drawings or sketches.
• Use power and hand tools and work with minimal supervision.
• Ensure safe operation from ladders and scaffolding.
