Job summary

The State of Utah seeks a Journey Maintenance Specialist to support state agencies through high-level maintenance, construction, and technical consultation. This journey level role requires diverse skilled trades experience and a proven track record of problem-solving, with the ability to organize and complete maintenance projects.

Location is Salt Lake City, Utah, with on-site work at 450 South State Street. The role includes on-call duties and adherence to safety regulations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of facility/building maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, makes adjustments, repairs and/or preventive maintenance on computers, vehicles, equipment, or machinery.
• Provides technical consultation to originators of project job orders, including development of project plans and related estimates.
• Builds, fabricates, or repairs structures, equipment, and/or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints and/or working drawings.
• Welds, solders, brazes, grinds, and/or fabricates various materials.
• Paints, finishes and refinishies wood, metal and other materials.
• Performs general facility maintenance including painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, as well as general cleaning and sanitation.
• Performs related plumbing, mechanical, painting and pipe fitting, etc., duties.

Key Responsibilities

Principle Duties

This is a journey level job. Incumbents perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance/construction duties requiring independent ability to organize and complete maintenance or construction projects, including technical consultation and limited design work, materials and cost estimates, plus compliance with applicable codes.

A Journey Maintenance Specialist May

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The best qualified candidate for this position will have 3 or more years of experience in facility/building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Electrical systems.
• Heating and cooling systems.
• Culinary and waste water piping systems.
• Reading schematic drawings.
• Working with computer controls.

Supplemental Information

• Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined areas, bend and crouch and work with hazardous chemicals.
• Must be able to see and hear.
• Must be available for On Call.
• DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers
