Job summary

NORPAC, now part of International Paper, is hiring a qualified Electrician & Instrumentation Technician to join the maintenance team at its Longview, WA facility. The role focuses on powers and control, safety, and continuous improvement in a high-demand paper mill environment.

Tier-based progression with competitive hourly rates and benefits. Candidates should demonstrate strong PLC, motor control, and instrumentation skills, plus a solid commitment to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Two-year program or apprenticeship in electrical/instrumentation fields.
  • Experience with PLCs, motor controls, and instrumentation systems.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical and instrumentation maintenance on equipment in a paper mill environment.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, drives, valves, and field instruments.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, and schematics; follow control system logic.
  • Maintain organized work areas and tools; follow safety protocols.

This is a safety-sensitive position.General Requirements Include:Demonstrated ability to work safely and comply with safety proceduresExcellent team and communication skillsAbility to work without direct supervisionStrong interest in learning other craftsWillingness to learn and grow within a tier-based systemBasic computer skillsWillingness to work in a hot, humid and noisy environmentMust be willing to learn the skills needed to strengthen role as a dual-craft Electrician & Instrumentation technicianQualify in one mechanical tradeCommitment to continuous learning and active participation in the Electrician and Instrumentation programRequired: (Tier 1 - Entry)Completion of an electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship or have graduated from a two-year program in Industrial Electricity/Electronics or Instrumentation (e.g. Perry Institute) and/or equivalent coursework and experienceFollowed safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety standardsExperience with PLCs, motor controls, or instrumentation systems through coursework or trainingKnowledge of electro pneumatics and hydraulics as well as understanding troubleshooting skillsFamiliarity with hand tools, multimeters, and basic test equipmentAbility to maintain organized work areas and toolsRequired: (Tier 2 - Experienced)Four years electrical and/or instrumentation apprenticeship or have graduated from a two-year program in Industrial Electricity/Electronics or Instrumentation (e.g. Perry Institute) plus two or more years of combined experience as a Journey Level Electrician or Instrumentation TechnicianStrong troubleshooting skills with knowledge of electro-pneumatics and hydraulics as well as effective troubleshooting skillsElectrical skills: working knowledge of AC/DC drives and motor maintenance, PLCs, NEC and applicable codes, switchgear/medium voltage equipment, and ability to read motor schematics and logic drawingsInstrumentation skills: experience with control valves, field instrumentation, P&IDs, loop sheets, and DCS controlsPreferred:Multi/cross-craft experience is a plus, (Electrical/Instrumentation)Knowledge of SAP functionsPrevious leadership experience in maintenance in a manufacturing environmentPrevious experience working in paper or pulp mill maintenanceCompensation:NORPAC encourages professional development/tenure and rewards its employees through a tier-based system.Tier/Level Hourly RateExperienced - Journey Level Electrical & Instrumentation Technician (P&C Tech) $48.98Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Technician $50.65Specialist (Area Expert) $53.85Lead Technician (Crew Leadership) $55.92Expert (Mill Wide Leader) $57.99Typical Progression: An experienced Journey Level Electrical & Instrumentation Technician generally starts at $48.98/hour and typically advances to $50.65/hour after 3-6 months. In addition, all shift P&C positions receive a $2.35 premium after 3 months.
