Job summary

AC Transit is seeking experienced Journey Level Mechanics to diagnose, inspect, and repair bus systems across District vehicles. Applicants should have 4–7 years of automotive experience; diesel experience is not required as diesel training is provided by the District.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of automotive experience welcomed; diesel experience not required, automotive experience sufficient.
  • Completion of the District's Apprentice Training Program or 4+ years as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic.
  • Equivalent to 12th grade, plus either completion of the four-year Apprentice Training program or external two-year program in automotive/heavy-duty maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, inspects, and repairs defective coach components and systems.
  • Maintains and repairs bus systems including hydraulic and electrical, brakes, front ends, and air conditioning.
  • Performs major overhauls and tune-ups of brakes and steering; preventative maintenance on lifts.
  • Operates buses and diagnostic equipment to identify component failures and perform roadside repairs.
  • Documents work performed and prepares reports; communicates with District staff.
