Job summary

Two Rivers YMCA invites applicants to join our Youth Sports team as a Sports Leader. The role focuses on teaching fundamentals of sports, promoting Y values, and collaborating with volunteers to achieve program goals.

You will help set up activities, supervise events, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for participants of all ages during evening and weekend shifts. A strong emphasis on teamwork and community involvement is required.

Qualifications

  • One year of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Completion of CPR, First Aid, AED within 3 months of hire; training on Bloodborne Pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with youth and adult sports programs using appropriate equipment safely.
  • Support marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Ensure YMCA program standards and safety procedures are followed.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, parents, and participants.
  • Supervise program activities and respond to emergencies as needed.

General Expectations
  • Mission, sportsmanship and character development remains the core element of every program’s curriculum.
  • Build relationships with all program participants and/or parents and guardians, and co-workers. Encourage feedback and address any needs and/or concerns as needed.
  • Be on time and stay for the entirety of assigned shift, unless otherwise directed.
  • Wear proper uniform at all times.
  • Follow the Code of Conduct, Personnel Policy and the Y’s Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for all staff, volunteers and participants.
  • Stay up to date on all required certifications and trainings.
  • Assist with the repair and upkeep of the equipment, and communicate program needs.
Youth Sports Programming
  • Set up for various activities as instructed; both outdoor and indoor.
  • Act as the game official as directed by the supervisor.
  • Keep closets and storage areas neat and tidy.
Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Leader assists in teaching fundamentals of sports, Y character values, and works with Y volunteers to help ensure the program meets its intended goals.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with youth and adult sports programs by utilizing appropriate program equipment properly and safely for games, practices and activities; ensure program participants are engaged; assist with maintaining and communicating needs of fields and facilities of program activities; lead or assist with program activities or events; and maintain and/or update and transport equipment.
  • Assist with ensuring programs meet intended goals. Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Ensure that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Model relationship‑building skills in all interactions; develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, parents and caregivers, and program participants.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising program participants, and be a primary responder in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications
  • One year of related experience preferred.
  • Within 3 months of hire, completion of CPR, First Aid, AED for infant, child and adult, Bloodborne Pathogens, Illinois Harassment training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Position requires both indoor and outdoor activities, in various weather conditions.
  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.

Previous Experience Requirements
  • Previous/Current Experience in various styles of dance.
  • Previous/Current Experience in teaching students of all ages.
  • Ability to teach one or more styles of dance skill and choreograph dance routines.
