Job summary

Murphy Oil Corporation is seeking a Joint Venture Accountant to manage month-end close for US JV entities and collaborate with internal stakeholders and JV partners. You will ensure accurate cost recovery, oversee overhead allocations, and support ad-hoc projects in a fast-paced oil and gas environment.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least 5 years in JV/operations accounting, with SAP JVA/CO experience and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Joint Venture and/or Operations accounting in oil and gas.
• SAP JVA/CO module experience (cost center, equity group, JOA, distribution cycle).
• Familiar with operating agreements for US operations (onshore & offshore).
• Excellent Microsoft Excel knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end joint venture close processes for US operating entities and related key controls.
• Compute company labor billable hourly rates for global use annually.
• Support internal time writing processes and reporting.
• Calculate and track operated and non-operated payouts for US properties.
• Advise proper overhead setup and expense deck for new AFE’s in the US.
• Perform joint venture accounting related balance sheet reconciliations and follow-ups.
• Maintain joint venture master data and manage ownership adjustments.
• Build schedules and journals related to reallocation, billability, and overhead adjustments.
• Scrutinize and process non-operated US joint interest bills.
• Assist on partner and JV audit inquiries pertaining to US properties.
• Work on cost recovery efforts and ensure compliance with SOX controls.

Job Summary

The Joint Venture Accountant is responsible for performing the day-to-day and month-end processes along with working on partner cost recovery initiatives. Effective communication with internal stakeholders (Land, Operations, Finance, etc.) and external Joint Venture Partners (Op and Non-Op) is essential. They are also accountable for the timely and accurate completion of all assigned and ad-hoc special projects.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, make process improvements, and maintain a solid control environment. And can operate as a part of the team and assist teammates on challenges as well as focus on individual initiatives.

The JV Accountant will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to process streamlining and automation projects, and work with IT on user testing

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Joint Venture and/ or Operations accounting in oil and gas
• SAP JVA/CO module experiences (cost center, equity group, JOA, distribution cycle and etc.)
• Familiar with operating agreements for US operations (onshore & offshore)
• Excellent Microsoft Excel knowledge

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledgeable with payout calculations
• Experience with cost recovery projects
• Comfortable with performing account reconciliations
• Understand inventory and equipment transfer accounting treatments
• Stay current on COPAS interpretations
• Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate

Th e individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs.
