Job summary

Seattle Housing Authority is seeking a JobLink Career Coach to recruit, assess, coach, and strategize with residents toward education and employment. Under supervision, you will connect residents to social services and trusted partners to support coaching, training, job referrals, and placement.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or four additional years of related work experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience in vocational and/or educational counseling, social work, human services, or case management.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, Business, or related field, OR may substitute an additional four years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to recruit, assess, coach, and link residents to partners and resources.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of adults with multiple challenges, and work respectfully and courteously with residents, other SHA staff, and the public.
• Communicate the purpose and benefits of the Adult Employment Program and support participants in their education and employment paths. Conduct outreach and recruit new program participants to maintain an assigned number of families that make up the caseload.
• Conduct initial intake and assessment of housing participants' needs including interests, strengths, skills levels, work experience, employability, potential barriers to education and employment, and required supportive service needs. Provide an overview of labor market opportunities and trends suited to participants' interests, education pursuits, and short and long-term goals
• Facilitate the development of strategies to meet established educational and employment goals, including strategies to eliminate barriers and obtain resources to meet goals by networking with community-based agencies to stay informed about area services and resources Provide referrals for needs such as health care, childcare, chemical dependency, mental health, legal issues, immigration, domestic violence, budgeting, food, utilities assistance, transportation, etc.
• Work cooperatively with other SHA staff, including Community Services, Property Management, Admissions, Office of Policy and Strategic Planning, and Housing Choice Voucher staff to best serve participants, receive referrals, promote training and other economic opportunities for participants
• Attend all required training and safety meetings. Use, maintain, and replace assigned personal protective equipment. Report all injuries and illnesses to the supervisor immediately. Complete and submit incident/accident reports as required. Report hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices to the supervisor. Follow all safety and health guidelines, practices, policies, and procedures.
• Follow funders and/or SHA-specific requirements/policies as dictated in external grants or internal resources dedicated to a specific type of economic opportunities program.

The position:

We are seeking to fill a JobLink Career Coach position. Under the general supervision of the Career Coach Supervisor, the Career Coach is responsible for recruiting, assessing, coaching, and creating a strategy with residents that prepares them for education and employment. Career Coaches link residents to trusted partners for assistance with social service needs as well as skills training. Career coaches also help residents with career counseling, job referrals, and job placement.
