Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a structural analysis engineer to provide FEM/FEA support for ground support equipment and tooling used in manufacturing. You will review designs, run stress analyses, and mentor designers on best practices for stress, stability, and fracture analysis.

Candidates should have a bachelor's in engineering with 2+ years of experience in GSE or tooling, proficiency with Ansys or NX, and familiarity with AISC and ASME codes. US citizenship or eligible work status required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or higher required.
  • 2+ years of experience analyzing GSE or tooling in automotive/aerospace or similar.
  • Experience creating and validating FEMs using Ansys or NX Simulation.
  • Proficiency with free-body diagrams and internal load calculations.
  • Familiarity with structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1).

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength assessments using classical analysis and FEM for tooling and GSE.
  • Document and review stress analyses to release engineering drawings.
  • Mentor tooling designers on stress, stability, and fracture analysis.
  • Provide design guidance considering risk, cost, and performance trade-offs.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed analysis for tooling and equipment in manufacturing.

This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.As a member of this highly skilled and collaborative team, you will be responsible for providing structural analysis support for ground support equipment (GSE) and manufacturing tooling, including but not limited to machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, and mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include conducting structural analyses, reviewing and evaluating both internally developed and vendor-produced designs, and offering structural design consultations to designers and external partners.Special MentionsRelocation providedShifts available: A-shiftMultiple positions availableResponsibilities include but are not limited to:Perform strength assessments utilizing both classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and ground support equipment (GSE)Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentationMentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysisProvide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offsSupport cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studiesLead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systemsServe as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projectsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering (minimum), with at least 2+ years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industryExperience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with NastranProven Experience of FEA using 1D, 2D & 3D elements with models containing weldments, machined parts, and weldmentsProficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexityExtensive experience analyzing steel, aluminum, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculationsProficiency in performing bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, etc.)Proficiency in performing welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modesFamiliarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1, etc.)Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) licensureProficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX softwareStrong customer focus and excellent communication skillsDemonstrated track record of successful project deliveryAbility to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teamsSelf-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneouslyAbility to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiencesBase Pay Range for:WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35Other site ranges may differCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
