Jobtailor is hiring in Portland, OR for an Employment Specialist focused on creating inclusive opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will build employer relationships, advocate for hiring IDD candidates, and coordinate tailored job placement plans.

You will assess participant goals, coordinate with support teams, and provide ongoing job-search support and post-placement follow-up to ensure retention and success.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Clear background checks as defined by regulations and policies.
  • College degree preferred or equivalent proven experience.
  • Sales background.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of supported employment practices, job carving, and workplace accommodations preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong people skills in a calm and compassionate manner.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Workspace, and electronic record-keeping systems.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) fluency preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, community partners, and industry leaders to create inclusive employment opportunities.
  • Conduct employer presentations and advocate for hiring individuals with IDD.
  • Educate employers about accommodations, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Assess participant skills, interests, and employment goals through interviews, vocational assessments, and collaboration with support teams.
  • Develop individualized job placement plans aligned with participant goals.
  • Match participants with suitable job opportunities and arrange interviews.
  • Provide on-site and off-site support during job search, application, and interview processes.
  • Collaborate with job coaches to ensure successful onboarding and training.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide follow-up support to promote job retention.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, employment records, and service documentation.
  • Work closely with job coaches, support coordinators, families, and team members to provide wraparound employment services.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Uphold the philosophy of the Employment First Initiative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
