Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. is seeking a cost analyst to perform detailed project cost analysis, monitor budgets, and generate accurate reports. You will identify variances, investigate discrepancies, and collaborate with project managers to discuss cost-saving opportunities on complex heavy civil projects.

This role supports ongoing budgets, forecasts, and internal controls across multiple teams. The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting or related fields and 2+ years in construction cost

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, construction management, civil engineering or related field.
• 2+ years in job cost analysis, accounting, estimating or field engineering in construction preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction project accounting and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project costs in detail including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
• Monitor budgets and compare actual costs to budgeted amounts.
• Identify cost variances, investigate discrepancies, and explain budget deviations.

• Prepare and distribute project cost reports, forecasts, and analyses to management and teams.
• Assist in developing budgets and cost estimates for new and ongoing projects.

• Conduct audits of project documentation for accounting standards and controls.
• Support month-end and year-end close by reconciling costs and journal entries.
• Contribute to development and improvement of cost tracking systems and tools.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and review project budgets and compare actual costs against budgeted amounts.
• Identify cost variances, investigate discrepancies, and provide explanations for budget deviations.
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to review project financials and discuss potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare and distribute timely and accurate project cost reports, forecasts, and financial analyses to management and project teams.
• Assist in the development of project budgets and cost estimates for new and ongoing projects.
• Maintain accurate records of project costs, change orders, and contract modifications.
• Conduct regular audits of project documentation to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
• Support month-end and year-end financial close processes by reconciling project costs and performing related journal entries.
• Assist in the development and improvement of cost tracking systems, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, construction management, civil engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in job cost analysis, accounting, estimating or field engineering preferably in the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of construction project accounting, cost control processes.
• Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of construction accounting systems, such as Viewpoint or similar software, is preferred.
