Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking an on-site Job Coach to support students placed with local employers, ensuring tasks are completed to employer expectations and students gain skills for ongoing employment.

Responsibilities include direct on-site coaching, collecting performance data, coordinating with teachers and supervisors, and helping students with transportation and attendance. This role requires a high school diploma and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Standard high school diploma or GED.
• Three years of progressively more responsible work experience.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Implement behavior management procedures as prescribed to ensure participation.
• Assist student in learning strategies for transportation to/from work.
• Work the same schedule as the student (holidays, weekends, nights).
• Communicate with employers, coworkers, parents, teachers, and agency personnel.
• Perform duties in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.
• Participate in training programs to increase skills.
• Review current developments related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
• Follow federal/state laws and school board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION GOAL

To provide on-the-job assistance to ensure that the job for which a student is employed is completed to the employers’ satisfaction and to coach the student to the extent necessary to ensure the students’ continued success in the position.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

• Develop a thorough knowledge of jobs in which students will be placed by physically performing all tasks which will be required of students at job site.
• Provide on-site assistance to students by demonstrating the necessary work skills and, as needed, by helping the student to complete the task.
• Maintain on-going contact with student's on-the-job supervisor for as long as needed to ensure the student's successful performance in the position.
• Collect and record performance data for each student under the direction of the on-the-job training (ojt) teacher and principal.
• Provide input to the ojt teacher with regard to the student's performance on the job.
• Monitor student attendance and punctuality.
• Implement behavior management procedures as prescribed by the ojt teacher or other school support staff in order to ensure successful participation in the workplace.
• Assist student in learning strategies for obtaining transportation to and from the work site.
• Work the same schedule as the student (holidays, week-ends, nights, etc.) To the extent necessary to ensure the student's success on the job.
• Communicate with employers, fellow employees, parents, teachers, and agency personnel to facilitate long term employment for students.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of the school board of broward county, florida.
• Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
• Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal or district administrator.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program Three (3) years of progressively more responsible successful work experience where the individual has had to learn a variety of job procedures. Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Bilingual skills preferred.

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

On a daily basis, communicates with employers, fellow employees, parents, teachers, and agency personnel to facilitate successful, long term employment for assigned students.

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district board.
