Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking an on‑the‑job assistant to support students in workplace settings and help them complete assigned tasks to the employer’s satisfaction.

The role requires hands‑on knowledge of job duties, proactive supervision, and collaboration with school staff, employers, and families to ensure student success and sustained employment. A high school diploma or GED and relevant experience are needed.

Qualifications

  • Standard high school diploma or GED completed.
  • Three years of progressively responsible work experience.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough knowledge of jobs in which students will be placed by physically performing all tasks which will be required of students at job site.
  • Provide on-site assistance to students by demonstrating the necessary work skills and, as needed, by helping the student to complete the task.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with student’s on-the-job supervisor to ensure successful performance.
  • Collect and record performance data for each student under the direction of the on-the-job training teacher and principal.
  • Provide input to the ojt teacher regarding the student’s performance on the job.
  • Monitor student attendance and punctuality.
  • Implement behavior management procedures as prescribed by the ojt teacher or other school support staff.
  • Assist student in learning transportation to and from the work site.
  • Work the same schedule as the student (holidays, weekends, nights, etc.).
  • Communicate with employers, fellow employees, parents, teachers, and agency personnel to facilitate long term employment for students.

  • Assist student in learning strategies for obtaining transportation to and from the work site.
  • Work the same schedule as the student (holidays, week-ends, nights, etc.) To the extent necessary to ensure the student\'s success on the job.
  • Communicate with employers, fellow employees, parents, teachers, and agency personnel to facilitate long term employment for students.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of the school board of broward county, florida.
  • Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual\'s skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal or district administrator.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program Three (3) years of progressively more responsible successful work experience where the individual has had to learn a variety of job procedures. Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District\'s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district board.
